Sometimes our dogs develop behaviours which concern or upset us, are undesirable or are socially unacceptable. Dogs have the same feelings and emotions as we do, but dogs can only communicate their feelings through body language and behaviour. By asking why the dog is behaving like it is, we can understand how it is feeling and begin to address the cause of the unwanted behaviour.
Some of the problems which may require specialist behaviour consultation are: Separation/Attachment Disorders; Anxiety/Nervousness; Noise Phobias; Aggression; Obsessive/Compulsive Behaviours
If you need help with your dogs behaviour Contact: In the first instance please phone or e-mail me for a free discussion about the behaviour problem. If I can help and you want to go ahead with a consultation I will make an appointment to assess your dog in your own home. You will be asked to complete and return a history form prior to the assessment. This helps with completing the full assessment on the day.
Assessments: These last approximately 2 hours depending on the severity of the issue. As well as your dog being assessed, I can find out what your concerns and goals are. Following the appointment, you will receive a bespoke behaviour modification plan detailing the problem and a plan of action to suit you and your dog.
Please note: I work on veterinary referrals: If your dog has not been referred to me by your vet, you will be asked to inform your vet that you are seeking behaviour advice. I may make it a condition of us working together, that your dog is given a health check by your vet to ensure there are no underlying medical problems which could be causing or contributing to the behaviour problem.
My methods are based on the scientific principles of canine learning theory and behaviour modification, which are kind, effective and non-punitive. I believe there is no place for aversive punishments in education and behaviour modification. To support dogs (and their guardians if they wish) during behaviour modification, I can also provide Bach Flower Remedies. Please request this if you would like to use them for your dog.
